THE VISION Arts & Education

LAS VIRGENES IS KNOWN FOR
ARTS EDUCATION

The Las Virgenes Unified School District has long been recognized for its award-winning performing arts programs. LVUSD's theater, music and dance programs engage thousands of students from elementary, middle and high school each year in the performing arts, making the Las Virgenes Unified School District one of the most sought-after public school systems in the region.

AWARD-WINNING STUDENTS & TEACHERS

LVUSD performing arts students and teachers are regionally and nationally recognized as top performers in the arts. Students have been awarded numerous honors, including the Los Angeles Music Center's Spotlight Awards, a second-place win and multiple positions as finalists in The Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington National Jazz Competition, and have numerous first-place finishes at the Drama Teachers Association of Southern California regional competitions. They are regularly invited to perform at venues all over the country, including Lincoln Center in New York, the Savannah Music Festival, and Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. LVUSD instructors have received the Los Angeles Music Center's BRAVO Award and Los Angeles County's Most Inspirational Teacher award, among others.

PERFORMING ARTS BOOST ACADEMICS & TEACH IMPORTANT SKILLS

The performing arts have been proven critical to a student's academic and social development. Numerous studies show that students who are engaged in the arts earn higher GPA's on average, perform better on state and national tests and consistently outperform their peers on the SAT. Performing arts students learn and practice creativity, innovation, teamwork, presentation skills, and discipline. They develop self-esteem and the ability to think quickly in the face of changing circumstances. These are the life-skills which employers seek when they hire new workers. When the jobs of the future are unknown today, these are the skills which students must have in order to solve problems, adapt to new circumstances and work with people from all over the world in a rapidly-changing technological society.

PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL

Students graduating from our high school performing arts programs have been accepted to prestigious performing arts programs in colleges and universities such as the The Juilliard School, Manhattan School Of Music, Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, USC's Thornton School of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Temple University, and Northwestern University, among others. LVUSD graduates have performed professionally with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, have been founding members of the bands Linkin' Park, Incubus and Hoobastank, have landed regular roles in such television shows as Malcolm in the Middle and Days of Our Lives, and are currently working as choreographers, conductors, actors, musicians, Broadway singers, and producers all over the country.

INVEST IN THE PERFORMING ARTS

This is why, at a time when many school districts are making deep cuts in the arts, the Las Virgenes Unified School District is purposefully investing in them. Your gift will help to ensure that the performing arts programs in Las Virgenes will continue to inspire, teach and motivate students for generations to come!
